What it does
Everything goes quiet
Keyboard, trackpad, mouse, and the brightness and volume keys all stop responding. Wiping a keyboard presses hundreds of keys — none of them reach your work.
Every display, one colour
All your screens fill with the same flat colour so smudges and dust actually show up. Nothing is drawn on them unless you are holding a key.
Two deliberate gestures
Hold Esc for three seconds to finish. Hold Space for three seconds to change colour. A hold is cancelled the moment another key goes down, so a cloth dragging across the keys cannot trigger either one.
Doubles as a dead pixel test
Black, white, red, green, and blue are the classic dead pixel palette, plus a checkerboard mode. Same app, same flat rendering, no stray pixels.
It always gives your Mac back
No session can outlive ten minutes, whatever happens. The exit gesture runs on its own thread, so it still works even if the interface stops responding.
It refuses when it cannot promise an exit
If another app is holding secure input — any focused password field — Wipe will not start, because Esc could not reach it. Better to decline than to strand you.
